Fun - Unexpected - Scentsy samples!

Okay, so it has been a while since I have posted anything.  I'm apparently not one who can keep a blog running every day.  I like to just jump on here and share my ideas when I have great ones to share!  And here's a great idea...especially if you are a fellow Scentsy consultant

The Fall/Winter months are upon us, and I dove right in and got my Scentsy facebook fans ACTIVE and wanting to smell our new scents!  (Find my FB page here: www.facebook.com/findscentshere.scentsy

So...after announcing the NEW scents for the season, I started a poll asking which scent they'd MOST like to smell.  These weren't necessarily the new scents for the season, just 5-6 that I thought should be voted on.  ;)  This was fun!  It got people to interact with both my facebook page as well as my website as they looked around at the scents.  I offered to send a scent sample to each person who voted and who messaged me with their addresses.  I had something special in mind!!

AUTUMN SUNSET won the poll, and a close second was Iced Pine.  :)

After I knew the winning scent, I ordered the mini testers for that scent (these are only available for Scentsy consultants...sorry guys!).  Inspired by this blog post (http://wishhopedream.net/2012/02/21/mini-tester-magnets/), I purchased small ROUND magnets from my local craft store.  (They were near the jewelry making items!)

THEN, at my local Dollar General, I found some fabulous (and cheap!) "Garland Christmas Card Holder".  It was just a random item down their Christmas aisle!  (And this is the beginning of October so I got to their stuff EARLY in the season.  Sorry if you can't find any!)  The garland came in either Christmas Trees, Gingerbread Man or Candy Canes....I chose Gingerbread men because I wanted it to be more FALL than Christmas since AUTUMN SUNSET won my poll.  :)  But...Gingerbread men seem like Christmas to me too......Still, these came out SUPER CUTE!

The "garland" was on twine, and used miniature clothes pins and felt gingerbread men.  (Easy to make if you can't find any...purchase twine from your craft store.  Also look in the scrapbooking section for anything you can adhere to a miniature clothes pin.  There are TONS to choose from in scrapbooking sections.)

Next, I googled "Free fall gift tags" and found some free little tags to print out.  :)  (Here are the ones I used:  http://www.printables4mom.com/2012/09/14/printable-fall-cupcake-toppers-and-gift-tags/)  Easy. I printed the same amount of tags as I had ordered in the mini testers.  Then, cut them out! I then turned all my fall gift tags over on wax paper, and SPRAYED them with the runner up scent (using Room Spray)....Iced Pine. :) I let that dry 30mins-1 hr and then wrote on them "Smell Me! Iced Pine". I decided to do this because Iced Pine is one of my favs, and I wanted a way for them to smell the runner up scent as well! Again, easy!

After that, I typed up a little hostess special. (You don't have to use a special...use anything to book a party that you LOVE using!  Scentsy offers GREAT deals to their hostesses as it is!  Just type it up, make it small and BRIEF.) These are to be placed in the mini clothes pin from the garland. (NOTE:  It is AGAINST Scentsy policy to publicly post your specials!  I will NOT reveal what my special is on this blog, and in the pictures it should be covered up.  Y'all PLEASE respect Scentsy's policy and procedure if you do this activity!  DO NOT POST TO WHERE YOUR SPECIALS ARE VISABLE!)

NEXT, I put it all together!
1.  Hot glue the round magnets to the back of the mini tester
2.  Cut up your garland, leaving yourself enough room to tie around mini tester
3.  Use a hole punch for the free fall gift tags (the ones you sprayed with room spray!)
4.  String the fall gift tags onto the garland, then clip a Hostess special in with the miniature clothes pin.
5.  Take the top off the mini tester (go ahead...sniff it, AGAIN, lol) - then using the excess from the twine of the garland, tie it around the tester where the top goes!
6.  Screw on the top, squishing down the twine.
7.  Taa-daa!  So cute and FUN scent samples to keep your customers intrigued!

Pictured below shows the back of the tester and the back of the fall gift tags that I sprayed with Scentsy's Iced Pine room spray.

Next two, show the CUTE and FABULOUS finished product!!

Mini tester, twine garland (came with mini clothes pin and felt gingerbread man) with enough excess to tie around tester, fall gift tag sprayed with room spray and a Hostess Special clipped in mini clothes pin.

If you cannot find the twine garland, use thin ribbon or yarn!  Felt cut outs can be found in both the scrapbooking section and art/crafts section of your craft store.
Mini clothes pins can be found at Wal-Mart!

My contact info is on the BACK of the little hostess special card.  Be sure you remember to add this, so they can contact you!

Enjoy!!!

Top 10 Favorite Uses for Baby Powder!!

If you follow my blog, you should know by now that I have 2 baby girls.  :)  Well, I never really used baby powder until my first baby girl came along, and since then I have found many personal favorite uses for it!  Some of them I've read and "collected" over a few years time and others I have tried and tested just to see how it works out for me.  I've decided to share some of my favorite uses!

1.  Rub beach sand off - We are a beach family!  We go every year...but nothing is worse than sticky sand all over your hands, feet and booty!  I always pack a travel size baby powder bottle, so that when we are ready for our snacks on the beach, I simply sprinkle the powder on and the sand rubs RIGHT OFF.  It's pretty much, MAGIC!  ;)

2.  Get rid of pesky ants in the house - Did you know, ants hate baby powder?  For some reason, it's true!  And the good news, is that it is safe to use around kiddos, instead of harsh ant spray.  Sometimes those little "sugar ants" find their way into our kitchen window to our sink.  Sprinkle baby powder on their trail....and they are gone!

3.  Decrease grease in your hair - simple "dry shampoo"!  I recommend putting it in the palm of your hands, and then finger combing through your hair, instead of dumping the bottle of baby powder upside down on your head!  They always say washing your hair every day is not good...now, you don't have to!

4.  Grease splatters (on counters and clothing) - one of my least favorite things to cook, but favorite thing to eat...BACON.  It splatters everywhere!  Counters, stove and clothing.  And the grease stinks!  So...I grab my bottle of baby powder and sprinkle it on the counters...wipes right up!  Also, for grease splatters on clothing, sprinkle it on, rub it in and repeat until you don't see the grease spot anymore.  (This does NOT take the place of washing your clothing after getting grease on you!  This method "soaks" up the grease until you can get it in the washer!!)

5.  Freshen mattresses between changing sheets - Next time you change our your bedding, sprinkle baby powder on your mattress!  Soaks up odors, freshens the mattress and will actually make your fitted sheet feel cooler when you get in your bed!

6.  Squeaky floor boards - This one sounds weird, and I wasn't so sure when I first read it on the internet, but it works!  Squeaky floors?  Sprinkle baby powder down and sweep or brush into the cracks of the area it is squeaking.  Taa-daa!  No more squeaks!  Weird, huh??

7.  Setting make-up -  Baby powder makes your skin super soft!  I am not one to wear a lot of make-up...actually, most days I wear none at all.  But, when I do, I wear foundation, blush, mascara (see tip #10!!) and baby powder!  ;)  Lightly sprinkle baby powder into the palms of your hands and rub together, then rub over your foundation and blush.  This acts as a setter for your make-up!  Also, absorbs any grease during the day!

8.  Heat rashes/diaper rashes -  This is the obvious use for baby powder!  I learned the hard way, that every diaper change should be finished off with a sprinkle of baby powder!  If your little one already has a rash...go for Pure Cornstarch baby powder!  Clears it up in just a few uses.  I use the Pure Cornstarch to PREVENT a diaper rash as well.  (My youngest daughter is 6 months old and has never had a diaper rash!)

9.  Socks/shoes/gym bags - Maybe another obvious use.  Sprinkle some in your shoes and socks for a quick refresher.  Also great in the bottom of gym and diaper bags!  Helps keep odor at bay!  AND, sprinkle some in your slippers, so when you get out of the shower and slip into slippers, the powder helps soothe and smooth your feet!

10.  Thicker lashes - YES!  Most women long for those "movie star" lashes, but don't want to deal with false lashes!  I read this one online and thought to myself "NO WAY...".  But YES, it works!  You need an extra lash brush for this "trick", so be prepared!  Apply your mascara, then sprinkle some powder in your hand...run a lash brush through it and apply to your still damp lashes.  Allow to dry, then repeat a layer of mascara.  Continue this until you have reached your desired thickness.

So there you have it!  My favorite uses for Baby Powder!!!!

OKAY, so it's ALMOST July!!  Know what that means??  No??  Well here, let me tell you!!

It means...
That in the wonderful world of Scentsy!...
20 BRING BACK MY BARS will be available!!  July only!!

So, what are "Bring Back My Bars"?  (I'll abbreviate as BBMB)  BBMB's are Scentsy scents that were once discontinued.  The public voted on them, and after nearly 4 MILLION votes, the top 20 are being brought back for JULY only!!

This means your FAVORITES (and more than likely your NEW favorites if you are new to Scentsy) are available again!  Woohoo!!

For a list of BBMB's you can visit my FB Scentsy page and click through this photo album...
 http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.435849413121965.97018.369661289740778&type=3

Know what else is super cool in July?  THIS "Ohana" warmer!

What screams summer more than ocean blue "waves" and FLIP FLOPS???  (If you are from the south like me, you know it takes pretty cold weather to get us out of our comfy flip flops!)
(To order, go to www.allisonmckenzie.scentsy.us starting July 1st and search for "Ohana"! 10% off the entire month of July!)

Alright, so consider this - July means what?  BBMB......cute new warmer....... and possibly the start to your own amazing Scentsy business??  Now I've said this before, and I'll say it again...ok?  So listen.....and I mean this EVERY TIME I SAY IT.  Scentsy has been the BEST decision for me!!  I am a stay at home mom who has tried numerous "sell this product and get rich" SCHEMES.  None of them "work" like Scentsy has worked for me...because Scentsy is not a SCHEME.  The reason is because people NEED Scentsy...everyone could use a great gift to give to someone!  And who doesn't love a fresh smelling home for guests?  Scentsy is fun, fresh and unique!!

Well anyway, I believe July is the perfect month for YOU to start YOUR Scentsy business. (Not to mention, because these BBMB scents WILL SELL and you will have a TREMENDOUS first month with Scentsy!!) Remember, Scentsy provides you with all the tools needed to start.  Train at home, ONLINE!  And speaking of training.....I TRAIN MY TEAM MEMBERS WITH TOOLS, RESOURCES, IDEAS and FRESH SELLING TIPS FROM THE DAY THEY SIGN UP UNTIL......well......until they don't need me anymore!  But I have never had a team member "not need me"...because we become such great friends that we just BUILD OUR BUSINESSES TOGETHER!!

Think about that.  And find me on FB once you decide to join!  www.facebook.com/findscentshere.scenty

Spiritual Alphabet

Our oldest daughter is 2 years old, and she's just starting to learn her ABC's pretty well.  It amazes me how such a little person can soak in and remember so much!

Well, one of her new favorite books (given to her at birth, but we are just now allowing her to get her little hands on it) is her Spiritual Alphabet Book.  We are Christians, and instilling the love of Christ in our girls at young ages is very important to us.  What a wonderful way to do that!  A spiritual alphabet book!  We love it so much, that I wanted to share with you the SPIRITUAL ALPHABET!!

*****First - to give credit where it is NEEDED.  The book is "My Spiritual Alphabet Book" by Holly Bea.  The illustrations are wonderful and colorful, perfect for little ones to keep their attention!  Illustrations done by Kim Howard.*****

This is my Spiritual Alphabet - God made it just for me.  So when I count my blessings, I can use my ABC's!

I absolutely adore this book, as does my 2 year old!  I am so happy to see her learning and most importantly reading and beginning to understand in "easy words" the love of God.  Such a neat book....ALL parents need this book!!

Smooth *Summer* Feet

It's that time of year!!  Summer!!

Fun in the sun - sand, water, BBQ's, swimsuits and sandals!

Wait....Sandals??
What about our WINTER feet that have been stuck inside closed toe shoes and boots??
Dry, rough feet are NOT cute in sandals -
no matter what pretty color nail polish you pick out!!

Well, you can pay for a pedicure of course, and what lady doesn't love a good pedi?!  But for those of us who spend most of our time at home with children - you know, wake up and do everything revolving around your precious babies then at the end of the day realize you barely ate or had a bathroom break...well, you more than likely don't have time for a pedicure!

And you of course can try products that "shave" your rough skin down...like those egg-shaped deals that literally shave your skin off.  (It doesn't hurt, but think about it....ewww!)

Well here's what I do:

All you need are 2 products that will last you a long time!

That's right!  This is all you need for Smooth Summer Feet!

I use Stridex Naturally Clear on my FEET after a nice shower or bath. 2 pads are needed (one per foot).  Then slather on some nice skin care lotion.  This is just Equate brand from Wal-Mart - doesn't have to be expensive!  And I prefer non-scented on my feet!  (Even though, yes - I am a Scentsy consultant and Scentsy has AMAZING smelling body lotions that I use on my body.  I simply prefer non-scented on my feet!)

The acne pads slough off dead skin and adds a little medication which kills bacteria.
The lotion, of course, adds moisture!

Please note: ANY acne pad will work.  HOWEVER, Stridex Naturally Clear does not have alcohol - which I assume would DRY your feet even further.  That is the reason I choose the Naturally Clear.  :)  If all you have are acne pads with alcohol, give it a try still and be sure to moisturize those feet afterwards!

I at first did this for a week, and now that my feet look and feel better, I keep it up every few days as I feel necessary!

Now that your feet are SMOOTH -
what are your favorite nail polish colors for summer??
Mine this year are bright purples, blues and of course PINK!

(For information on the amazing smelling Scentsy lotion I spoke of, please visit my website at www.allisonmckenzie.scentsy.us and search under Layers by Scentsy)

DIY Laundry Detergent with Scentsy Washer Whiffs

Has everyone seen the big craze on Pinterest - making your own laundry detergent??  I have found several different recipes and some say it lasts 5-6 months...which is amazing!  Some recipes are for powder detergent while others are liquid.  Some are scented and some are not!  And of course my favorite is NON-SCENTEDWhy??  Because I'm a Scentsy consultant and can scent my own!!

Well here's what I've done:
I followed this recipe found here - beingcreativetokeepmysanity.blogspot.com

And I paired it with these Washer Whiffs from Scentsy:
My Team's favorite Scent: QUIVER
Also comes in: Coconut Lemongrass

These Washer Whiffs smell amazing!  Towels, sheets, clothing, etc!  I cannot say enough about the "Quiver" scent...there is just something about it, when you nestle yourself in your clean Scentsy smelling sheets - well, you QUIVER!  Smells amazing!

And then, after you wash them with your handmade laundry detergent and Layers by Scentsy Washer Whiffs - you throw them in the dryer with these:

Layers by Scentsy Dryer Disks!
These Dryer Disks are the finishing touch to long lasting AMAZING smelling laundry!  Scentsy scents are known to last the longest of any scents out there!

So you definitely should give this combo a try if you are considering DIY laundry detergent!  The Scentsy products work *best* with non-scented detergents, however I have used both scented (store bought) and non-scented (DIY) detergents and the scents smell amazing either way!  Trust me on this!!!  ;)

**** 2016 Update:  I am no longer a Scentsy consultant, but I bet you know plenty of ladies (and men!) who are.  I have removed my Scentsy website address but still intend on keeping this recipe up.  I love it...and I still LOVE my Scentsy Washer Whiffs.  :)

Bag Painting on a Rainy Day

So how did y'all like the painted sugar cookies post??  I'm telling you, my 2 year old had a blast learning and eating as we went through the colors and tastes.  Well here is another activity I did with her, one rainy day.  It's basically "finger painting", minus the mess...because at this time I was big and pregnant, and having extreme back pain.  The last thing I wanted to do was hold my toddler up to a sink to wash her hands after finger painting.  So here's what we did!!

I got a zip lock bag.  Added a few squirts of different color paints - any paints will do because they don't get their hands messy!

Once your paint is in the bag, zip it up and TAPE THE TOP!!  Because believe me, toddlers know how to open ziplock bags.  ;)  I used regular Scotch tape, but would have been more comfortable using packing tape.

Next, I put her in her portable high chair and handed her the bag. She went to town squishing it with her fingers...and of course we talked about the colors and about how we were mixing them together.

This was her finished product.  Maybe not too pretty after all is said and done, but she had a blast.  She wanted to do more bags, but this was the last I had in the whole house!  So we'll be doing this again very soon!

You could cut open the bag, down one of the sides, and lay it out to dry.  But I'm not sure how well the paint would adhere to the plastic bag...I guess it depends on what type of paint you choose!!

Also, for older toddlers and children, you can just use TWO colors of paint and have them mix them together to learn what color is made out of the combination of paints!

Y'all let me know what you think.  And if you would change anything!!

Painted Sugar Cookies

I have a 2 year old daughter, and some days it is difficult to keep her occupied.  While I was pregnant with our 2nd daughter, I had to come up with ways to entertain my 2 year old indoors.  At the time she was only 21 months old...so this is what I came up with!

"PAINTED" Sugar Cookies!!  And let me tell you, she LOVED it!!

I followed a basic sugar cookie recipe.  Mine came out really soft and chewy, perfect for little teeth like a toddler!  (So that is something to consider when picking out a cookie recipe!)

Next, I followed a basic powdered sugar icing recipe.  (Sorry, no recipes for these can be found on the blog.)  I then split up the icing into small containers and added food coloring to each one...they all came out to be beautiful pastel colors!

I sat my daughter in her high chair and first handed her a paint brush and explained what we were about to do with the cookies!  (She was at first more interested in tasting the cookies.)  ;)

I then handed her the icing and let her paint away.  She loved it!!

And of course she *HAD* to taste the icing!!

I didn't get pictures of us adding sprinkles, but I had a container with 4 different colors of sprinkles that I added to the top.  *She chose the colors of sprinkles for EACH cookie and we talked about the colors as I added sprinkles for her.*  This was a great and TASTY learning experience for her!!

Our finished products!
